How to play Dice Duel online

1. Start a room and send the link to the other player.
2. On your turn, roll all five dice. Tap the ones you want to keep and roll the rest. You get three rolls in total.
3. Then put the hand in one of the thirteen boxes on your card. Every box shows what the dice in front of you would score in it.
4. A box can only be used once, and you have to use one every turn. So a bad hand means picking which box to sacrifice.
5. Fill all thirteen and the higher total wins. Sixty-three or more in the top six boxes earns a thirty-five point bonus.

Why Dice Duel works over a distance

Everything else in this arcade rewards the better player. This one doesn't, on purpose. With dice, a nine-year-old and their grandparent can play the same game and both have a real shot, and that's exactly who ends up playing on a site like this.

The rolls come off the server, derived from the room's seed and the roll's number, not from anything your browser decides. Neither of you can reroll a bad hand by refreshing, and the same room replayed gives the same dice.

The scorecard shows what your hand is worth in every open box before you commit, so you're choosing between numbers, not guessing. It doesn't make it easier. The hand that's only good for the box you were saving is still going to hurt.

Is this Yahtzee?

It's the same kind of game (five dice, three rolls, thirteen boxes and a bonus for the upper section) under a different name. Yahtzee is a trademark of Hasbro, and this isn't their edition.

Can I roll again after scoring?

No. Each turn is up to three rolls and then exactly one box, and the turn passes. You must fill a box every turn, which is why a hand that scores nothing still makes you think.

Who decides the dice?

The server. Each roll is derived from the room's seed and how many rolls have happened, so nothing in your browser touches them and refreshing changes nothing.

Can I play against the computer?

Yes, with Play solo. The bot keeps whichever face it has most of and takes the best box on offer, leaning towards the upper section for the bonus. It doesn't work out the odds, so you can definitely beat it.
